As part of the work we do in our ocean observatories we have multiple instruments that can detect (and have detected) tsunamis. The research that we are leveraging for tsunami detection oscillates from new applications of instruments that are normally used for other purposes to commonly used technology available in our observatories. Some of our instruments, such as the WERA radar that we have installed in Tofino have produced data in the past in which the tsunami signal was detected a posteriori. Our WERA project is trying to leverage this technology for real time detection. New algorithms are being developed for this purpose.
