Sometimes data can be restricted from access to general users. As defined in some Data Partnerships, data can be restricted from general user access. Data that are restricted will have a red exclamation icon over their data format in Data Search.
Data may be queried in the API, but return no values. They should instead return a message indicating data is restricted and to complete the Restricted Data request form (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdDyBaEgOuQw_-pVIwgQO23z7INMtM3oomlcAMeM3bBUTPCMQ/viewform)
To gain access, one must
- Complete the request form, including requested details
- Be given consent from the party restricting data
Please indicate the following in your initial email to ONC:

- Name (first and last)
- Affiliation - group, organization, or body requestor is affiliated with

- Device Codes
- DOIs
- Cast IDs
- Community Partner(s)/Project Name
- The Date Range of the request
- Date Range of Data
- (e.g., for all-time, specific date ranges YYYY-MM-DD - YYYY-MM-DD)
- Date Range of Data
- Short project description and goals pertaining to this data request that can be shared with the data owner to help make the decision to provide access or not
- Information collected will be retained for traceability for data owner and custodian
Timelines for requests can vary based on data owners. ONC does its best to provide details of requests to partner organizations in a timely manner, but partner approval or denial is largely based on capacity and out of ONC's control. If you have issues, and/or your request is taking longer than you expect, please contact info@oceannetworks.ca and someone will provide assistance.
Once an agreement is made between the requesting user and the party restricting data, the user accounts will be given the appropriate access as agreed in the letters of consent.
- Access may be granted to all data or a subset of the data restricted as defined in the letters of consent
- Access may be indefinite or limited to a certain amount of time as defined in the letters of consent
If a request is denied, there is no appeal process. The data owner has the right to approve or deny access at their discretion.
