Benthic and Resistivity Sensors (BARS)
Benthic and Resistivity Sensors (BARS)
The Benthic and Resistivity instrument takes measurements from a multitude of sensors in hydrothermal vents. It has sensors to measure resistivity, temperature, eH (oxidizable nature of seawater components) & hydrogen.
The instrument is able to estimate chloride concentration, temperature, and redox potential within a black smoker vent by recording a time series of fluid resistivity.
Benthic and Resistivity Sensors (BARS) on the Seafloor
Two Benthic and Resistivity Sensors (BARS) are planned for Endeavour Ridge.
