Time Series Scalar Plot

Time-series single-sensor plots for sensors collecting one-dimensional data are described here (i.e., every timestamped data record refers to a value at a single point in space). This definition may include instruments on mobile platforms such as Wally (a crawler in Barkley Canyon) or the Vertical Profiling System (VPS). However, gridded data from instruments like multibeam sonar and echosounders are excluded. For data searches defined by location and data source, (e.g. CTD at Folger Deep), new plots will not be made if the device contributing the data is modified, (i.e. if the CTD is swapped for another). In this case, the extent of each deployment will be shown on the plot with triangular markers and a legend. For data searches defined by instrument type, (e.g. CTD 10600), if the device is moved (e.g. from MTC to Folger Deep), new plots will be made for each location.

Revision History

  1. 20091208: Data product initially released
  2. 20100513: Subsampling option introduced
  3. 20101130: 1 minute interval added to subsampling options
  4. 20120627: station search fully supported

Parameters

Subsample Period:

  • Minute - intervals defined from 00.000 to 59.999 seconds
  • Hourly - intervals defined from 00:00.000 to 59:59.999 minutes
  • Daily - intervals defined from 00:00:00.000 to 23:59.59.999 hours
  • Weekly - intervals defined from Friday at 00:00:00.000 hours to Thursday at 23:59.59.999 hours

Subsample Type:

  • Averaged - mean value within subsample period (fixed-window averaging without overlap)
  • Decimated - first data record within each subsample period
  • Minimum/Maximum - most extreme minimum and maximum values within subsample period, plotted with two lines

When subsampling is selected:

  • The timestamps in the data series correspond to the beginning of each subsampling period.
  • If the date/time range on the search has end limits that are within a subsampling period, the date/time endpoints are extended to include the entire subsampling period. For example, when daily subsampling is selected from 03:00:00.000 on Monday to 20:00:00.000 on Thursday, the date range is extended to 00:00:00.000 on Monday to 23:59.59.999 on Thursday.

By default, if no subsampling is selected, hourly averaged data will be used to create plots when the volume of data exceeds a specified threshold.

For more complex subsampling, CodeRunner is an alternative resource (see CodeRunner Help).

Formats

Plots are available in PNG and PDF format. Basic metadata information is included in the titles. Note that the logo in the PDF product may appear 'fuzzy' in some viewers, see the PDF page for more details.
