CO2, carbon cycling, and ocean acidification
-experimental modification of environment:
e.g. create CO2 pool on seafloor in hydrate area, monitor change over time, testing carbon sequestration
-VENUS has funding for initial sensors, joint VENUS/NC component of their CFI proposal
-FOCE
-MBARI pH sensors
-BIOACID: pH, CO2, Alkalinity two of 3 to be measured, sensors are cheap ($200) -
-carbonate organism transplant between higher and lower pH environments
-coccoliths, change of biological pump because change of ballast and remineralization.
-US Ocean Acidification array: pH, T, S, pCO2, chlorophyll, oxygen, plus water samples for ship/lab analysis
