Metadata Product

Most of NEPTUNE Canada's data products come with a metadata file, which gives information about all aspects of data. Essentially they are 'data about data.' The metadata data product comes as a separate result for every data search run on our servers.

Metadata contain information on the data and data sources, the observatory, the instrument/sensor, and other background information.

NEPTUNE Canada adopted the guidelines from the US Federal Geographic Data Committee who revised their standard in 1998. Reference:

Federal Geographic Data Committee. FGDC-STD-001-1998. Content standard for digital geospatial metadata (revised June 1998). Federal Geographic Data Committee. Washington, D.C.
